Riyadh Air Metropolitano tour in Madrid: Atlético's stadium and museum

Out in the east of Madrid, right beside the M-40 ring road, Atlético de Madrid built their current home on the site of an old athletics track. Since 2017 the stadium has ranked among the most modern football grounds in Europe, and its visitor tour combines the hospitality boxes, the red-and-white dressing room, the players' tunnel and the dugout with an interactive museum covering more than 1,400 square metres. It is the ideal way to discover the Atleti side of the city, and here are all the practical details for doing it in 2027.

Updated 13 October 2026

From La Peineta to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The venue's story began a long way from football. In 1994 the Community of Madrid opened an athletics stadium here, nicknamed La Peineta after the comb-like outline of its single grandstand. That stand, on the west side, is still built into today's structure and remains the clearest clue to the ground's past.

The Cruz y Ortiz makeover of the Metropolitano

The Seville practice Cruz y Ortiz arquitectos led the conversion into a football stadium. Atlético de Madrid played their first match there on 16 September 2017, beating Málaga 1-0 with a goal from Antoine Griezmann. Today it holds more than 70,000 spectators.

The changing names of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Between 2017 and 2022 the stadium was called the Wanda Metropolitano and, since October 2024, it has carried the sponsored name Riyadh Air Metropolitano. For plenty of supporters it is still simply «the Metropolitano», a nod to the ground the club occupied in Cuatro Caminos from 1923 to 1966.

Finals played at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The venue staged the 2018 Copa del Rey final and the Champions League final on 1 June 2019, when Liverpool beat Tottenham 2-0.

What the Riyadh Air Metropolitano tour includes

The route leads you through spaces normally reserved for players, directors and guests. You can follow it on your own or with a guide, and the order of the stops may vary from day to day.

Boxes and VIP areas of the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The visit often begins in the hospitality areas: the guest-of-honour box and the presidential box, both facing the pitch head-on and looking up at the roof that shelters the stands.

Dressing room, tunnel and dugout at the Metropolitano

Next you head down to pitch level. The Atleti dressing room, lined with the squad's lockers, is the big moment for fans; it is followed by the tunnel the players walk out of and the dugout, where you can strike a pose like one of the coaching staff.

Territorio Atleti museum at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The museum sits on the stadium's retail street next to the official shop and covers more than 1,400 square metres. It traces over a century of history through trophies, shirts, photographs and boots, adding interactive features and a 360-degree virtual reality experience that drops you into great red-and-white nights. It also hosts temporary exhibitions, such as the one devoted to the original Stadium Metropolitano of 1923 to 1966.

Riyadh Air Metropolitano tickets and prices

There are two main formats: a combined tour-and-museum ticket and museum-only entry. As a guide, the self-guided adult visit started at €24 and the guided version was around €32 (indicative, checked October 2026). Children aged 4 to 13 pay a reduced rate and under-4s go in free.

Audio guide at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

If you choose the self-guided option, you can add an audio guide for a few euros; it is slightly cheaper when bought with your ticket than when requested at the museum reception.

Member discounts at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Atlético de Madrid members receive discounts at the museum, so if you are one, keep your membership card handy.

Riyadh Air Metropolitano visiting hours

The stadium welcomes visitors seven days a week. According to information published by the club, from mid-October to late March the usual hours are 11:00 to 19:00, extended to 20:00 from late March to mid-October. Last entry for the tour is roughly two hours before closing.

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano on match days

When there is a match or event, visits end about five hours before the start. The dressing room closes from midday on the day before the fixture until the stadium reopens the day after, so that window takes a lot away from the experience.

The best time to visit the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Early hours on weekdays are generally the quietest. Weekends without a match and school holidays bring more families. Since the timetable is reviewed every season, check the hours for your exact day when you book.

How to get to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The stadium stands at Avenida de Luis Aragonés, 4, in the Las Rosas neighbourhood of the San Blas-Canillejas district, hard up against the M-40 and not far from Barajas airport.

Metro to the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Estadio Metropolitano station on line 7 drops you practically at the foot of the ground. From the centre, a journey with one change from Sol or Gran Vía takes around half an hour, depending on your connection.

Reaching the Riyadh Air Metropolitano by taxi, car or bike

By taxi or car, access is via the M-40. Outside event days, parking in the surrounding area is usually easy to find; on match days traffic becomes very heavy. The wide avenues and green spaces around the stadium make it pleasant to arrive by bike.

From the airport to the Metropolitano

Because it is so close to Barajas, the tour fits nicely into your arrival or departure day in Madrid if your flight times are convenient; just leave plenty of margin for the journey and the luggage check.

Tips for enjoying the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

Between the stadium and the museum, a full visit can easily fill two and a half hours. If you only want the tour, allow a good hour.

  1. Start with the stadium: your tour time sets the pace, and you can explore the museum at leisure afterwards.
  2. Travel light: there are entry checks, so a small rucksack makes life easier; leave suitcases at your accommodation or in a left-luggage locker.
  3. Comfortable shoes: expect ramps, stairs and long corridors at pitch level.
  4. Charged battery: your ticket is usually on your phone and the dugout photos soon add up.

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano with children and accessibility needs

With touchscreens and virtual reality, the museum holds the attention of younger visitors. The club has also developed adapted activities at Territorio Atleti for people with disabilities; if you need specific support, mention it at the museum reception when you arrive.

Official shop at the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The shop is on the same retail street as the museum, so it is easy to pop in afterwards for a shirt or a scarf.

What to see near the Riyadh Air Metropolitano

The surrounding area is residential and built around broad avenues, a world away from the historic Madrid of the Habsburgs. To round off the day, line 7 links up within a few stops with more central districts, from where Retiro Park and the great art gallery on Paseo del Prado are easy to reach.

A football trail with the Riyadh Air Metropolitano and the Bernabéu

Fans who want to see both faces of Madrid football usually book the Santiago Bernabéu Stadium tour, on the Castellana, on a different day. Comparing the two grounds, one embedded in the financial district and the other on the eastern edge of the city, helps you understand the derby rivalry.

Family outings

If you are travelling with children, you could set aside another day for Faunia, also in the east of the city, or for the Zoo Aquarium in Casa de Campo.

The Riyadh Air Metropolitano in 2027 and how to book your date

2027 will be a special year for the stadium: UEFA chose it to host the Champions League final, scheduled for Saturday 5 June 2027. It will be the second final of Europe's top club competition played here, following the one in 2019. The tour calendar will probably be adjusted to the event preparations in the preceding weeks, so booking ahead is wise if you are travelling in May or June.
